Mummified part of crocodile
Egypt is a land full of mysteries, and it is there that several
mummified remains of crocodiles were recently found in a burial site. The head
of the mummified crocodile was cut off, Only body parts are left. Researchers
are still looking for the exact answer as to how the crocodiles died. Crocodile
mummified carcasses were found in the 'Qubbat-al-Hawa' area on the west bank of
the Nile.
According to the researchers, the condition in which the
crocodiles were recovered after excavation is, in a word, rare. After the
crocodiles were killed, they were mixed with sand in such a way that they dried
naturally in the sun. The Crocodile carcasses were then wrapped in palm leaves
and brought to the burial ground. And this is how it was preserved, the
researchers said. However, not all crocodile bodies could be preserved in this
way. Many crocodile mummies have been damaged in many cases. The researchers
believe that the heads of the crocodiles were cut off after the body parts were
dried.
But behind the recovery of the mummified body of the crocodile
in Egypt Various mythological stories have also come up. Animal mummies were
once offered as offerings in worship to the gods. Researcher "B de
Koper" of 'The Royal Belgian Institute' thinks that, this may be the
reason behind killing these crocodiles and preserving their bodies. But if the
crocodile is an incarnation of God, then why should he be killed? In response,
he said, if a spiritual link is found with the mummy of an animal, then the
Egyptians did not consider that animal killing as a sin. Researchers also think
that crocodiles were killed to appease the gods. In this context, the name of
the Egyptian god Sobek came into use. In Egyptian civilization, Sobek is a god
whose face resembles a crocodile. And the rest of the body is like a human. As
a result, many researchers think that the crocodiles were killed to appease the
Egyptian god Sobek.
The ancient Egyptian burial site from which the remains of the
crocodiles were recovered is called the 'Dome of the Wind'. It is believed that
the burial place was used about 2500 years ago.
